Control Indoor Humidity by Installing Portable Dehumidifiers

A portable dehumidifier is an excellent way to control the humidity levels in your home. A humid home can make you feel colder in the winter, and hotter in the summer. By taking the moisture out of your environment, you not only make it more comfortable in yourself, but you also make it easier on your air conditioning or your furnace to make your living environment comfortable in one of 3 basic capacity ratings: 25 pints, 50 pints, and 70 pints.

These sizes do not indicate how much the dehumidifier can hold, but the rate in which the unit can remove the water from the air. For instance, a 70 pint unit is rated to remove up to 70 pints of water per day from the air. For big areas, you definitely want a higher capacity rated unit. The 70 pint variation is more popular than the others.

Portable Dehumidifier Warranty

All portable dehumidifiers with pump come with a 1-year warranty. If you purchase your unit from online retailers, there is an optional extended plan for up to 4 years.

Ease of Use

The units are easy to set up and use. Just read the first few pages of the manual and you are off and running.

The units come with an easy to empty bucket. However, some users have opted to place the dehumidifier where it can drain via a hose or sump. Some piping may be required. Portable dehumidifiers are great in basements!

The units are also very quiet. They operate at a low temperature and use less energy as indicated by the Energy Star designation.

Potential Drawbacks

These dehumidifiers are heavy, weighing between 34 and 48 pounds. They do come on wheels, however, and have a handle on top. But this may be a consideration if you are elderly or have trouble moving things around yourself.

Also, these dehumidifiers vent air to the side. If space is tight, the venting might be an issue if it is blowing something around that you don’t want being blown around.
